The Program

Tolland Cooperative Preschool is self-governing, non-profit, and non-sectarian. The program is organized and administered by the parent members; parents or guardians of each child enrolled in the school. As a cooperative, the preschool offers parents the opportunity to participate in their child’s early education.

Involvement

Parents of children at Tolland Co-op actively participate in the program in many ways. They assist the teacher in the classroom on a rotating basis, support fund-raising, and serve on the Executive Board or on a committee.

Tuition

Tuition is determined by the current Executive Board and is based on yearly operating expenses.
See the Classes page for current tuition.

Testimonials:

Alumni Parent:
My son did the 4-day program for children who were eligible to go to kindergarten but were waiting a year. It was phenomenal. Mrs. Joy is great with the kids. She engages them with activities that are developmentally appropriate and fun. They go outside every day possible and learn to explore the clouds and the plants and animals around them. They practice skills that get them ready to learn to read, like writing the "menu" for snack, a favorite task for the kids. And other skills, too. Art projects that are fun but also practicing fine motor control, yoga poses that work on gross motor development, learning to hold the door until the person behind you has a hand on it, listening to the person who is talking without interrupting. The small class sizes mean lots of personal attention. And since there is a helping parent there for each class, the parents get to see what the children are doing.

Parent:
Between my 2 children we have experienced 3 preschool programs in the area and while there are other good programs, this one was the best! Mrs Joy has a love for teaching and a love for the kids that is amazing. She is patient and caring in her teaching and makes every experience an opportunity to learn. A walk to the playground isn't just a walk, it's a lesson in driveway safety, a time to teach about types of clouds and a look at the nature around based on the season. Each of the programs is thoughtfully designed for the ages and abilities of the children in the class. I felt my daughter was very well prepared for Kindergarten at the end of this program (both socially and academically) and am confident my son will be as well. It was also wonderful as a parent to be an active participant in these first school experiences for my children.
